A manager can change someone’s perception of the company

It is amazing how much a manager can influence an employee, his work, his commitment and ultimately, the opinion of this company. I used to have a great manager and back then it was great to work at GF. Everything was somehow easy. However, a new manager came along and everything changed. I no longer have the motivation to work here anymore. I do not believe that having managers who will disperse the best employees is in GF's interest. However, by all accounts, there are more bad managers than good ones here?

There are a very few managers who you would want to work for and would make an impact in life

I had a manager who was good, easy, friendly. Then, there was new leadership in 2020. 2021 rolled by, he then turned into a person who was a micromanager and if you weren’t aligned with him then, you were against him. Therefore ruining your career at gf.

Imagine your manager who never listened to you, and did what he said was best for you.

I can confirm too there was a time when the manager had a vision and the group was striving. But then the manager left and the new manager without any vision completely ruined the whole motivation for working. The feedbacks were useless no transparency, no answers for high level questions. The manager used to gossip in pure sight with other managers and the whole dept was a mess. Eventually I left and could not have been more happier.

Can confirm. Dept had zero attrition in 3+ years. New 2nd line and attrition exceeded 50%.
In this scenario I find HR more responsible than the toxic mananger. Employees made this known during their exit interview and nothing was done.

End of the day manager good or bad all hinge on how you adapt …

If u can’t adapt to your manager style , the door is alway open , no one will be there to see you out

I agree manager plays key role. However many work with different people other than manager.

If manager not good you may not survive even if all good however if manager is good but other people not good still you will not survive.

Work Culture which drives should be good and it's not currently good in GF.

No one cares about other person just looking for their survival now. Whether you leave will not impact GF as work culture believe everything is replaceable.

Better you move on from GF if you get good opportunity or learn to manage stakeholders irrespective of whether easy or difficult
