Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Are some people overdoing it with complaints?

If I didn't work for this company and if reading what is written here was my only impression of Follett, I would think it is the worst company ever. It's not that I don't think some things here can be much better, but let's be fair........ The people who have the most complaints are mostly the biggest slackers who won't be well anywhere because they need to change themselves first, and only then the company they work for.

You assume the company is posting fake Glassdoor reviews, but truth be told, there are actually many people who are happy with their job, and happy with the company. Not everyone is miserable!

So many generalities in this post. Could have written, "what's wrong with kids today" or "people just don't want to work".
Fact is, follett is awful. Look at Glassdoor. This is a terrible place to work. follett is so bad, they have someone writing fake reviews just to keep the "star" rating up. Guessing some gets paid to watch that metric.
Yes, some people will complain no matter what. Most people don't. The complainers aren't likely to take the time to write anything (remember they're lazy and don't take responsibility for their own lives?). follett is complain worthy, too.

Some people just complain to complain. They’re just miserable people. They’d rather blame the company when THEY are in control of their lives. There are many jobs out there. Don’t like yours? Move on. Unfortunately, the repeat complainers make it appear as though there are “so many” complainers on here. And people who still visit this site after being let go months or years ago? I’ll never understand that. It’s pretty pathetic that they just can’t let go. Why let a company that you hated continue to have space in your head?! Go live your life, people.

Isn’t that kind of the point of this website though? It’s a site for complaints and gossip. There are also thousands of companies on here, but Follett is one of the ones that has the most comments.

The People who have the most complaints..... Those are the people that are smart enough to know their worth. They also aren't licking the boots of a company that treats them like slaves. Be happy you have a job is BS. This is the perfect time to find a job that values you, that pays you your worth, that understands work life balance and that gives you the tools you need to do your job. The jobs are there, you need to think outside the box.Having worked for a bookstore, you could easily work in an office setting. Clinics and hospitals need people desperately. Do you know how many different departments health care has? If you like the college setting look into their openings. Like I said the jobs are there, you are most likely more qualified than you know. You do not have to settle for a company that treats you like an afterthought.

Yes, everyone that the magnificent leadership from Sears, K-Mary, Sports Authority have cut loose are slackers who won't be well (???) anywhere.
They won't be well for sure.

We are all losers / slackers who were not worthy to work for the mighty FOLLETT FAMILY.

The average of 250 job openings over the past five years speak for themselves. And the openings aren’t because of growth. Leadership, in one way or another has forced talented, tenured team members out the door. Since when does not approving of leadership make someone a slacker? Maybe, just maybe, if serious signs of an attempt to want to improve were made, just maybe things would be different. Think about it. The company was very successful when putting people first. Company starts putting profit first, company starts to die. Really!!

Considering there are around 1000 stores, and thousands of employees, I would say that the amount of complaints (here and elsewhere) is far too low, frankly. Nothing is ever going to change unless enough employees make their voices heard to those in power.

If you're not certain how bad follett is, check out glassdoor.com
https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Follett-Reviews-E3049.htm?sort.sortType=RD&sort.ascending=false&filter.iso3Language=eng

On this site, follett pays some staffer to write fake reviews (they're easy to spot; "great part time job, great student job, good for expanding experience, etc.). Most of the reviews are scathing. follett is a terrible company.

Your conclusion that "The people who have the most complaints are mostly the biggest slackers who won't be well anywhere because they need to change themselves first, and only then the company they work for.", lacks evidence. Given your fair outlook, that may have been an oversight.
I can tell you that follett isn't the worst company. It is amongst the worst however. It allowed for its longest tenured employees to be abused out of company. It cut benefits and pay. It demanded more from staff while offering less in return. follett is a poor company. Any other conclusion is delusion.
