The news just hit - manager leaked it accidentally. 20% wholesale RIF worldwide. No bonus pay (i.e. two weeks for each year worked). Instead - two weeks pay maximum. Also - no Cobra or outplacement services. Employees will be notified by EOW - with April 30th targeted as last day.

Bonuses were better than this time last year! so things can't be that bad. And for anyone that says " they have to do this to retain the remaining employees", No no they don't.
there is nothing about IBM wanting HV or any Hitachi storage products at https://www.thelayoff.com/hitachi. someone is making cr-p up. The last thing IBM wants is more drag on their company.
Highly doubt IBM, but another possibility is HPE, assuming they want to add another boat anchor to the company.
I don't see how it would make sense for "old IBM entity" to buy the storage unit. IBM itself already has storage. I'm not sure they need yet another block storage platform. Also, IBM seems to have been divesting all their open systems products.
Kendryl was split off specifically as a managed services company. Any HW would not be a fit for them at all. Finally, if they sold off block storage, which is a Hitachi Limited product, what would they do with the rest of the Vantara storage portfolio? Sure, they could EOL all of it, but that can't be done overnight.
I'm going to file this one with the other baseless nonsense rumors I have seen on this site.

No 20% RIF. There is a possible divestiture in play. I am hearing storage to the old IBM entity - is that Kyndryl? You have folks here hearing consulting to IBM GS. I am not sure which one is right, but 20% could be true in terms of divestiture vs. RIF.

Selling Hitachi Consulting, after spending all that time and money assimilating it into Hitachi Vantara? Wouldn't be the first time the company has "self harmed" though.
I think "Data Management and Analytics" is where Japan sees the future, so any cuts there seem counter intuitive. IMHO it's more likely that, longer term, that becomes part of the new "Hitachi Digital" company.

I think we'd have heard something if 20% of the workforce, worldwide, had been given their notice last week.

What this post fails to realize and capture is how large HV is in the global market. 20% cuts across the board is ridiculous from a P & L point of view as well as regional sales and earnings. It also fails in regard to lower wage labor markets.
I would argue if regional sales are satisfactory and your expertise cannot be rotated to a cheaper labor market via GL or S/SE Asia one shouldn’t be concerned.

Leaders do stupid things but a move that large and significant without giving benefits to people like cobra would rattle an organization enough that it couldn’t recover. No bonus? Doubt they would do that either. These forums have always been a mix of fact and fiction. This is fiction.

It's certainly a lot of very specific information to leak "accidentally". In some parts of the world - and I believe some US states - employment law restricts the actions listed.
I know there are some unusual takes on this site from time to time - and I saw similar stuff posted last year - but it would take a real sociopath (the manager or the poster!) to make that stuff up.
