It is in the manual, what’s even worse Managers and above have to give a month notice when they resign. A friend who worked her way up to manager resigned and couldn’t use her time except for she had FMLA. That was her only loophole. She used it all, vaca and sick.

If you are lucky enough to live in a state like CA, CO, MA, and LA that require employers to pay out unused vacation upon separation, then use up your sick time and floating holidays and not PTO. Otherwise, as another person suggested, use up your vacation & sick & any floating holidays, then put in your notice.

I have seen where if the person already had the time off approved before submitting their resignation the time off was allowed to stand.

So use up your sick time to find a job, tell the new place you need at least 3 weeks before start, request your vacation time and resign a week later.

Oh sweeties, this is in the employee manual. It has never been allowed. Read the manual before you make grand plans and use your paid time off to find a new job. Once you have the new job, use your paid time off and don't give notice. Simple.
