No place to grow a career

I feel sorry for young people who come here with the intention of growing their career. Unfortunately Riverbed has become a place for gaining some experience and nothing more. Once they realize that they leave disappointed. Why doesn't anyone ask during the interview process what types of opportunities exist here for advancing their career?

Half the reason Riverbed is failing is that so much management is full of people who were promoted beyond their level of competence, at all levels.

If you want to grow your career quickly, do it at either a rapidly growing company or a rapidly failing one (Riverbed). Plenty of opportunity to move up when the only thing that leaders can do is shuffle deck chairs around on the sinking ship.

One aspect that often gets overlooked is the experience of having to overcome adversary and changes, all the while growing. The value of those lessons IMO has lasting impacts in future jobs.

When you are that young you have no idea what to look for in a job. At least I didn’t. My first job out of school was a complete dead end as well. I wasn’t even working on current tech. I left after 8 months. I don’t know why anyone would join riverbed at this point but if you do I think you need to bail after about 18 months.
