McKesson IT layoffs May 2022

Today 05/10/2022, MMS IT townhall Dancy announced that they are engaging Managed service provider to replace most of the IT developer roles. There will be a 6 months transition period and one will be given severance and retention bonus if they complete the transition.

Is this what closed down the Scottsdale 101 campus? I don’t work here but I looked at roles here. I drive past the three large buildings that face 101 S on my way to my own office.

First I noticed they never put the company name on the northern most building. Then Zelle popped up on it. Then they took down McK name from middle building. Onsemi popped up on it.

While this was going on dumpsters were parked outside southern most building and cars were scarce. It was still Covid/start of RTO so didn’t think much of it. I figured they might be using the dumpsters for HVAC upgrades or something but nope, McK name now off last building and zero cars for weeks.

I went to an IT interest group meeting McK hosted a few years ago - before Covid. Really nice campus, people who worked there and participated in the meeting seemed happy. Sorry to see the campus seemingly shuttered.

If the deal is that I have to stay around for 6 months before I get my severance ... then I fully expect that they will get a whole lot of cr---y work out of the walking dead. Why would anyone make any effort to do anywhere close to a decent job ... just put in your time ... don't need to worry about doing a good job and collect the pay until its over.

I would have been happier if I had been just laid off and received my severance package immediately. Tying the severance package to my staying on for another 6 months after I was told I was laid off feels like McKesson wants to turn and twist the blade over and over again in the hope many leave early so that they don't have to pay severance. Not exactly iCare.

We value our people but do note that your performance is not a factor when it comes to layoffs. Same thing for last set of layoffs.

I recommend you search up Pacific Life on this layoff board. Since the 1950s the company was always a technology adoption and was known for employing people until retirement. If jobs or departments were eliminated they would be offered other roles even in other divisions.

When they announced the “strategic sourcing” plan in 2019 I was sure they would RIF just one or two non-performers on each team and augment our staff like they said. This will get rid of the busy work so you can focus on work that drives the business they said.

I always offered all the senior executives white glove support even though I was a lead on an application delivery team and helped all IT teams where applicable. I was well liked and had many accolades from the senior leadership. I was considered the superstar of my team. I received my first AWS certificate and was planning to pilot Azure virtual desktops…….

I was laid off in the first round of 100 and trained my offshore outsourced replacements over WebEx………….

The one or two LEAST expensive and LEAST performing team members kept their jobs……

They were laid off once the outsource offshore team was up to speed the next year - another 100.

Any functional human being who had anything at all to do with IT was laid off also - another 100.

Layoffs used to be a way of cutting non performers in hard times.

Pretty much all of ISRM is wiped. After the last major departure the sh-t show that McNeil introduced they can’t keep up. Can’t hire good talent cause they want it all in LasColinas or not at all hence the need to wipe the slate and outsource all of it.

They laid off more than just developers!
Only a few people will be left to "keep the lights on". No telling how long they will keep their jobs once McK has fully transitioned to the MSPs.
I really feel for the remaining divisions who counted on our services.

I left on my own in 2019, retired now. Do you know if folks in Scottsdale and Jacksonville will be affected?

outsourced our jobs to a new unannounced Managed Service Provider

That is correct. Not pushed to Managed service provider just laid off and asked to apply for open positions.
