Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

You can like your job and criticize the management

Anybody who mentions liking his job gets his head bitten off in the replies. Why is it so important to you that all of us hate our jobs? I like my job. I enjoy it. I still think that this management is awful and is leading UP into ruin, but that doesn't affect how I feel about what I do day-to-day. Why is that so hard to understand?

@ozx OK then what was the purpose of the STB and subcommittee hearings? I don't think you understand how a business works. A business needs customers, which right now are very mad at the UP. A business needs employees to serve those customers, which right now a very mad at the UP. The UP's profit depends on those p1ssed customers. The UP depends on those p1ssed off employees to help generate the "huge profits" as you put it. You might want to consider where the breaking point is the industry. How far can the UP push its luck before something bad happens? Think about it!

I've said it here before and I'll say it again. And I really don't care if I get
s hit on . I enjoy this line of work. I always have. But my managers as well as those that run this industry are some of the most incompetent, evil, greedy, worthless people I've ever had the misfortune of interacting with/hating to watch. There is a special place in he-l for each and every one of them

Management tries to make everything a binary choice, its either Y or N. They do that simplify THEIR lives. There has been a trend amongst this generation of executive level management to hire people only like them. People w/ certain academic backgrounds. It doesnt matter what the company does to derive a profit, these pseudo intellectuals have been brain washed to think they can manage it. Hence companies doing things like stock buybacks, not keeping enough cash on hand for a down turn, taking on too much debt, and not actually increasing business. These people cant build anything, these people cant improve a process, these people cant innovate. They cut, copy, paste, the procedures to temporarily raise the shareholders investment w/ no concern about the long term mess they leave behind. This is all in response to your post, yes one can like performing the duties of their job while simultaneously despising terrible management. Dont let the lazy incompetent ‘yes man’ corp mentality tell you “you either love everything or get lost”

I have heard for 30 years that management is leading the company to ruin; that it will go out of business or be bought out; and all kinds of other dire predictions. The truth is, no matter how bad it is for the employees and no matter how much the employees hate the management, this company is making huge profits and isn’t going under. Employee satisfaction and how the company does financially are two very different things. UP makes huge profits which keep the investors and board of directors very happy.
