Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

A huge number of employees want to be RIFed

Generally people don’t talk about it but at this point the atmosphere at TD is so desperate that many openly say they would love to be RIFed. Is it really worth waiting for the package? I don't think so.

There is still milk, it means that there is some ppl making real contributions. However, many of the talented hard working ppl have left and remaining are also leaving. At the same time, more and more milk collectors are joining. That’s why “You just don’t get that much milk.”

‘You can milk any animal, even a cat’

You just don’t get that much milk.

No, many of us actually don’t want to be RIF’d. I don’t think the severance would be enough to support many of us until we find another job. Our ancient technology is almost irrelevant to the modern world. It would be very risky to wait for the severance. Get prepared, try interviewing with other companies, you will get much more than all you can get from stingy TD by waiting for the poor severance!

I think we still have a strong group of real TDsauria, who plans no such thing. As long as there is milk, milking will be taking place.

For the first time in my career I'd welcome a RIF just to shut up the noise from this place

I see more signs that this is happening. We aren’t closing enough deals again this quarter. But we still have to hire those VPs before the freeze kicks in. Get ready for a wild ride. If they don’t get you this quarter, they will get you in Sept ( our annual fall clean up event).

If you quit on your own to join another company, you are probably getting some raise. Use that option instead of working on existing salary and hoping to get a RIF and severance package (few months of base pay). It is hard to find a job when out of job. Medical premiums are high when out of job as well.
Not rocket science but doesn’t make financial sense to wait for a RIF unless you are on the verge of retirement..

I got RIF’d and it was the best thing that could happen. My 401K was immediately vested. I got a severance and was quickly hired by another company. I came out ahead.
