Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

The Leaky TDC Boat Is Slowly Sinking

You don't need an MBA to figure this out. Legacy technology, late to the cloud, existing customers leaving, no new customers buying, brain drain of what little talent was left, inexperienced leadership team, toxic & political culture, and low morale. There is no fleet of boats, just one legacy EDW boat. TDC never diversified due to lack of vision and NCR salespeople running the company for many years. Then VL, OR, and now SM. Horrible CEOs. Now it is leaking with customers like Wells Fargo, BofA, WalMart, EBay, many others either totally turning Teradata off or moving workloads to modern cloud-native databases. Moving existing customers to AWS is barely keeping it afloat. Employees should run away and investors should exit or sell TDC short.

Speaking of toxic, how do toxic MK and CT still have jobs?

I work for a verbally-abusive manager, who tends to do a lot of gaslighting/scapegoating of the team (sounds like a common theme at TD). Doesn't like to follow the advice of his/her experts. He/she tends to position subordinates to fail, by not sharing information in a format that is useful to engineers (verbal passdown is no way to pass on complex engineering info/objectives) and then makes them own the ill results afterwards. Publicly in front of the entire group.

I look at this People.org or whatever they call themselves and it leaves me depressed knowing the incompetence at this company exists at all levels of leadership. A manager who has done some of the things to his/her staff that I have seen, would have been yanked off the stage with one of those big hooks they had in the Muppet Show. Like long ago at any other employer.

It’s not just about ELT. In my years working at TD, my current manager, who’s joined a few months ago, is such a lightweight, it’s almost ridiculous that someone of his qualifications is my manager. Demotivating is another word that comes to mind…

The root cause of all TD's problems is the politics. Take KCC for example. She does everything an HR executive shouldn't, yet she continues in the role and gets paid a ridiculous salary. I don't know what club you need to belong to to get cushy jobs you aren't qualified for, and even if I did, I doubt I'd be willing to do the things you need to do to be a member in good standing. You know these are not good people because an honorable person would resign if they woke up one day and found themselves in a job they knew nothing about.
