Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

More Layoffs

I heard something about a career fair for retail, all corporate employees being highly encouraged to attend, and 500 more positions being cut at corporate starting today. Anyone on here impacted?

I'm in tech. I would gladly push carts at a store if my pay stays the same.... but that's the catch they didn't mention in their one page "ad". They wanted the blow to land softly so they made a "woe is us" explanation and blasted it out.

If that's true, it sounds like a way to pump some needed energy into the retail stores. If office workers are willing to help do that, what's wrong with it?

Instead of humbly admitting the last time this was tried it was an absolute failure, Hy-Vee is doubling down on this strategy and trying legitimize it with a career fair, this is absolute bat-sh-t bonkers.

Can we just have lay-offs? I mean people get it, the economy is possibly shrinking and maybe some bad decisions were made along the way to get us here but this is giant circus that no one should endure.

Even suggesting to someone who's worked diligently and strived to carve out a better life for themselves that includes a salary, more meaningful work and better accommodations that they should consider taking one of these positions to save face for a failed CEO is absolutely insane.

Seriously is the executive board a captive cult? Does anyone in the room where that bu-----t idea was hatched have a central nervous system and a spine?

Hy-Vee has basically become a clown-town, if you are on the board shame on you for going along with this, you've let yourself, your associates and share holders down.

Someone needs to tell Randal to "go home your drunk" next time he dreams up another brilliant power move like this one, his ego and your lack of spine is destroying a company and peoples lives.

The entire office is being asked to look at the options - certain people aren’t being asked to attend. Not sure where some of this info is coming from.

They are having 1:1 meetings with people to "encourage" them to attend the job fair and seek other opportunities. More than likely those are the people affected when the next round of layoffs hit

Corporate employees are 100% being "considered" involuntarily into whatever position the executives choose at whatever wage they choose. No choice.

I think they said 500 positions needed to be filled at retail and they wanted to push employees at subsidiaries, DCs and corporate to "consider" those positions.

500? Who's gonna do the work if they let 500 go?

The business would stop.
