When I got my job with NS I thought I struck gold. Only to realize my weekends and social life as an 19 would be taken from me just like that. I stuck to the plan kept on working on. I worked with some of the best guys and women. With very bright minds some not so much but they made the job fun.Everyone had a sense of pride about the work they did. Especially in the locomotive shop I was employed at. Now days all I here is 25 year+ guys saying how much they hate it and how lucky we are to have gotten laid off. The reason the railroads are having trouble hiring and will continue is because people are not stupid like we once were to give up our weekends for 3rd shift Tuesday Wednesday off. So the Carrier’s can throw out 5k bones it’s not going to change the problem in the amount of skill and knowledge they let go.Tell the railroads to call back everyone they fired/ laid off in the last 3 years and offer them 15k each to come back and see what the responses will be……………..

NS needs more management.I get called to fix a simple broken pipe in a yard. There were 6 salary people standing around waiting on me to fix their problem. It was comical and extremely sad at the same time.
