Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

How much is life worth ?

For newer employees recently hired you have you’re reasons . I completely understand. 28yrs in this game I can tell you this is a huge mistake to trust any class one railroad …The face you have never seen or voice you have never heard just walk away . The years I have in this service I can never get back , family sacrifices , family events and once in a lifetime opportunities. So as they blatantly lie to the STB and Federal government recently. Don’t think that government will save you … In life you gamble and this is a bet you shouldn’t take … I’m close to retirement and I wish I could get all those years back . You’re a dividend / bar graph or ratio to hedge fund . If you are seeing this just resign and enjoy every minute of life . This is the best advice I can give for someone whom I never met …

If you are willing to work hard in exchange for low wages then you will have job security.

Off all the things to complain about job security isnt much better on the outside, non-union shop. You can get fired there one day because the boss wants to hire his drinking buddy instead. Of course they wont tell you that, they'll just let you go. Thats the joy of "Right to Work".

First thing to do when you get hired into a class one railroad… quit immediately

I have to agree with the poster. It is sad to hear that after you have 20 plus years in you have to worry about losing your job. The RR thanks you for giving up your life by laying you off or forcing you to work overtime and holidays. Sad.
