Thread regarding Belk layoffs

New hires take one look and don’t come back

I had a new hire that was astonished our mid sized belk store does not have a nighttime stock crew/cleaning crew. “That’s why the store is such a mess”. She also did not show up for her third day. “This is a multi-million dollar a year store and they can’t afford to pay a stock crew?” she ask with bewilderment?. Oh Belk, where is the money going? Certainly not to the employees.

No. You are not wrong. Doesn't seem to make any sense. Then again not much makes sense at belk. Our store is really rough.

3qoq mentioned sale set. What puzzles me- everything is cut to minimum and done somehow, whatever and half way. Yet saleset is in a full bloom, eating endless hours of payroll. Pulling “50% coupon” and replacing it with “ 50% daily deal” or very close to it. I can’t imagine there’s any science behind it, am I wrong?

She’s not wrong, tho
When I started, Belk still had an operations team to merchandise and sale set from6am-store opening. They CAREFULLY put out what the the truck had unloaded the night before, and there were enough of us to do it so that racks were OFF THE FLOOR BY 10am.

By the time I left, random managers were tossing cr-p off the truck last minute, and expecting literally anyone available to put it out, while also doing pick/pack, BOPIS, floor moves, occasional clearance because there was no room for new merchandise, sales help and go backs…I mean, it really is run poorly. I’d leave, too

Oh wait, I did.

I’ve seen new hires comes with “know it all” attitude, they are “experts”; criticizing and complaining while showing zero enthusiasm to do even little part. As soon managers realizing they can’t get anything from those people, they’re just leaving them alone and keep loading more and more on people who works.

Did you ask Belk new hire why she accepted that low pay and filthy job during the job interview when she already noticed that the Belk store has always been a “Dixie Dumpster” image in the first place?
