Thread regarding Shopify layoffs

50 employees were laid off yesterday

I'm not sure if there will be more today but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

More terminations happening across Shopify.

If Shopify intends to terminate more than 50 employees in a 4 week period, they must file an Form 1 with the Director of Employment Standards, Ontario. By law, this is to be posted at the companies headquarters (lol nearly all Shopify is remote).
The termination pay for firing more than 50 people is 8 weeks severance/termination pay.
it goes up the more they fire/lay off. It is happening, but it looks like they are staggering the firings so avoid filing the Form 1. Clever.
