Thread regarding DIRECTV layoffs

Approaching One Year Separation Anniversary from ATT

There is normally a one year quiet period (no radical changes keeping everyone calm) after separating a large business segment from the parent company. Is anyone expecting policy changes or headcount rationalization after August 1st? We are 70% owned by ATT and TPG has control over the governance of the business.

Is our El Segundo campus too large for Headquarters?

Please share your thoughts and comments.

El Segundo campus has shrank since they did not renew the leases on two of their buildings. 90% of the staff work from home now so even if they wanted everyone back, there would not be enough room.

"There was a surplus announced 7/15 for 7-9 employees in Operations, off payroll 7/29. One Senior Director and One Director was surplussed. "

Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that our remaining customer is aging rapidly - average age now over 70 years of age. Not exactly the "growth" demographic.

Interesting that we are cutting Ops, considering the push for us to recommend new hires as we apparently have an immediate need for more id--ts to fill up Workplace with banal cr-p and selfie videos.

Yes, There was a surplus announced 7/15 for 7-9 employees in Operations, off payroll 7/29. One Senior Director and One Director was surplused.

Was this the only organization hit with layoffs?

"I hope we're doing better with subscribers than the monthly pulse check / eNPS."

Talking to our Area Director a while back and he lamented that barely 5% of Field Techs were active on Workplace and Pulse Check. Told him he really didnt want to know the truth if they did take the poll, so count your blessings.

Well, let's see. Before T, my shop had over 50 Field Techs and today we have 11. We had 5 Supes, now 1. Full time trainer/fleet guy, 4 warehouse people and 2 clerks. Today, we have one temp worker in the warehouse. Rest are gone. Workload has dropped from 5 daily jobs apiece to 2 a day if its busy. Went two days last week with zero jobs. But, we are hiring WFH Muppets to fill up Workplace with burrito pictures, so someone is making out.

Welp! Few folks were handed the paperwork today. And so here it begins….

Obsolescence? Perhaps. There is Stream, although it's basically a cable tv offering. The rank and file has no idea what the subscriber counts are or really how we're competing in the market. The news from the executives is always rosy on the state of the business but that is clearly suspect without meaningful updates. I hope we're doing better with subscribers than the monthly pulse check / eNPS.

DTV is slowly spinning down the drain to obsolescence, so hang on as long as possible until given your walking papers.
