Promotion strategy

I'm on the verge of giving up trying to get promoted and at this point I'd prefer to change companies. No matter how hard I try, no matter how much I show my boss that I'm ready for the promotion - I can't possibly get the promotion that I objectively think I deserve. What was your strategy to get promoted?

Document the story of how you have outgrown your current position. Harder to move from grade 6 to grade 7, but easier to move from 7 to 8. You need to really become a cheerleader for the culture, and document how you prove value. Get involved with the humanistic side of the company, give thanks, take your trailhead seriously. You need to make a compelling case for yourself.

Let’s cut it short and be real, Promotion is subjective whether your boss wants to fight for you or not.
Here to get promoted, you gotta lick some as--s. Good luck with that or go somewhere else. End of story.

You won't be promoted if you are not from India and a particular cast.

Have you not realised the 9 grid box model is based on a load of opinions! The way you get a promotion at Salesforce is to ensure that you are one of the popular poster child! If your manager doesn’t like you or simply don’t want to promote you there is nothing you can do.

Look to move teams or change managers but be careful of the politics and the hierarchy of you do decide to do this.

Catch your boss doing something incriminating, then tell him your lips are
sealed. It will work out maybe.

Document where you were, and where you are now. Demonstrate the improvement, the efficiencies/ improvements you made to the team. Make it chapter and verse. Do not lie, but don't omit ANYTHING, no matter how small or trivial. You want a list that is a mile long.
Take your time putting it together, make sure it is bullet-proof.
Schedule a one on one with the boss with the agenda being to review why you deserve a promotion.
Hold the meeting, review your contributions, and ask again then and there for a promotion, or by a date certain.
While you do this, ask around about other companies that are hiring for what you do.
Start applying for other jobs online NOW as the economy is only going to get worse.
Inflation is not going anywhere and this is a huge problem.
Make your boss make a decision. Give him the reasons why he should promote you, but act as though it won't happen, which means start seriuosly looking for another job NOW. Best case is you get promoted, but you must have a plan b in action.
Good luck.
