Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

Appears IT is Most Impacted. Acquisition Rumors. Microsoft?

Based on these comments, IT, spread from US to Europe, is the group who has reported job loss.Blessings to ALL of those impacted.

Isn't IT a group that is commonly is impacted at a point of acquisition? Has anyone else observed the rumblings about Microsoft being a potential strategic buyer of Avaya? We can only pray that something happens before bankruptcy is the only option. It does make you wonder how the Board of Directors has yet to consider a vote of no confidence.

People forget the Nortel patents were more valuable than the company itself. Avaya as a company is dead but some of the patents will live on and that is where the value is.

Hello Time Machine!
Who in the 🌎 has been living under a rock to believe Bill Gates is still involved in MSFT in any form or fashion?

AVAYA being bought by MSFT 4 years ago may be compared to the disaster that was Avaya Nortel. Yet today the market is very different. So ABSOLUTELY NOT anything like that disasterous acquisition. MSFT would be an incredible blessing, not only to Avaya, but the overall market and clients. Let's go innovation!

I feel like if Avaya got bought by Microsoft, it would be like Avaya buying Nortel all over again. Two competing products where the buyer (Microsoft) would try to ki-l off Aura to migrate everyone to MS Teams as fast as possible. I think we can all remember how bad it was in those first few years (and even to this day where some of the Nortel folks still say "we wouldn't be in this situation if we just virtualized the CS1000") when it was Avaya Red vs Avaya Blue and all the bad blood on both sides.

Obviously you can connect Teams to Aura via Direct Routing but they can do that with every other PBX and would Microsoft want to support that from a cloud and on prem side (plus all those old versions of CM/CS1000 still in the wild)? If they wanted to buy a call center company, it would make more sense to buy Genesys since their call center can be used on any PBX vs Avaya relaying on CM with CC Elite on top of it (excluding CCaaS Public).

I think it would be very bad for us if they bought Avaya because they would be trying to ki-l Aura as fast as possible to get customers to Teams thus getting rid of those people that support Aura or forcing them to start over and learn the Microsoft Ecosystem. There is no way they would ki-l Teams Calling to move forward with Aura.

It would be better for us if we got acquired by a company that does not do UC/CC today (Oracle, SalesForce, HP, etc) and they move forward with Avaya then migrate as quick as possible.

If you read the comments world previous posts, there have been reports of job elimination in Germany, North America (not specific to US or Canada) and UK. All IT. No report if they were all at once or individually over the past 2 weeks.

Broadcom to Acquire Avaya?

Didn't Kiernan McGrath sell CA to Broadcom before he followed his friend (JC) to Avaya? With the likelihood that EU Regulators will heavily scrutinize the VMWare deal, pushing it out to late 2023, one should consider Broadcom acquisition history. They bought CA during a period when regulators held up the Brocade deal. They clearly paid way too much for CA (making McGrath appear to be savvy, when that was not the reason). They needed more US based anchors, and they paid for CA as it was a smaller deal compared to others, and regulators didn't really care to review such a deal.

Fast forward. 2022. Broadcom/VMWare deal will be a long process. They have cash. AVAYA would be small enough to not concern regulators at the VMWare scale. AVAYA CFO worked with Broadcom M&A team as recent as 2018.
