Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

I have a dilemma

Since I would like to be laid off, I am debating if it is a good idea to mention to my manager that I would like to be a target. The severance pay is not particularly generous, but it would be the best way out for me. Has anyone here tried telling their manager that they would like to be on the layoff list?

When I was getting ready to leave, I asked my director if there were any layoffs coming up since I was planning on leaving anyway.
There were.
I got unemployment for a year and saved someone else’s job.

No harm and no manager would question why especially under the circumstances.but it will be likely not make much of a difference unless they actually offer voluntary redundancy as a policy, but avaya are short of cash, they won’t spend the little money they have on paying severances I feel. And if they declare chapter 11- they won’t need to.

I've been in a similar situation at a former company... Who was laid off wasn't up to my manager, nor his manager. It was an HR decision based on some factors/math/whatever that they calculated. It might be a good idea to go ahead and mention it to your manager, especially if are unhappy in your current role. They might have a different path they can put you on, or bump you up the list of folks to be laid off. Can't hurt, right?
