Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Doing the minimum. Anyone else?

Management has been taking advantage of us by doubling our workload when their own workload hasn’t changed at all. Months ago, I started trimming back the hours I actually work, even on days that I am “in” the office. Having LOOOONG coffee break downstairs (and I drag a few people with me sometimes) everyday, returning to work only after a good nap and lunch, gossiping just about anything, staring at blank computer screen.

Not bad after all.

Good words to include in your obit- "He was a liar and a cheat, and encouraged his children to do the same, but at least he was fit, adored, wealthy and career wise far more successful and upwardly mobile than the vast majority of his peers." Words uttered in a mostly empty service.

@7wte+1hhoUzHZ, so true! When he is not playing video games during work hours, OP is posting on this site how he should be able to WFH because he is just as productive at home as he would be in the office! So funny!!

OP: And you wonder why management doesn’t want you “working from home” all week.

OK. Just different views on life I guess. I would like to be remembered as someone who could be trusted, who was honest even if it cost me, and whose kids respected me. I hope I achieve that. You can be remembered for being fit and successful if that’s what you prefer. Different paths for different people.

I truly hope my future children do turn out exactly like me, fit, adored, wealthy and career wise far more successful and upwardly mobile than the vast majority of my peers. I’ll easily be retired by 50, without any debt, and loving life.

@1evq+1hhoUzHZ, sounds like good advice for your kids. Don’t be surprised when they turn out just like you.

P.S. It’s OK, we know you don’t care.

Oh the Irony, it’s just way too funny. I am loving life, eating cake for breakfast, lunch and supper. Yes, I do enjoy my well deserved coffee breaks, and nice long, long lunches when not at my desk, surfing the net, studying for another sponsored degree and getting my workout and Fitbit on. Work away little slave people, work away and serve like slaves. I’ll take buff, relaxed and happy any day.

Unfortunately because of Covid the company didn’t do house cleaning like they should have. It is time.

You will be noticed and sent packing on the next downturn. Karma is a bi%^h!. Seen your type before... a good house cleaning will rectify the situation.

If your integrity is based on what others do, including your employer, you really don’t have integrity at all. What you are is unethical. Real integrity is not turned off and on depending on your circumstances. Maybe that doesn’t matter to you.

Integrity is something that is a part of your character. You don’t have integrity because it gives you financial gains or personal gains. Integrity is never sacrificed. People like you disgust me.

I started doing the bare minimum years ago, and I was just following the example set by my "leadership" who were doing the same thing for years, taking complete advantage of the company. When I hear the word "integrity" mentioned in any conversation about the corporate environment I just want to laugh and pu-e at the same time. "Integrity" is the last thing that matters. It's amazing that anyone in 2022 would even use the word "integrity" when talking about a corporate job. In the corporate world it's anything goes, it's a whatever you can get away with environment, that is the rule the execs live by. Why anyone would beat the drum and wave the flag for these stupid corporations is beyond me. But, there are lots of clueless, naive and stupid people in the world who are easily duped by these corporate con-artists and their "hard work" con game.

OP, over the years I have seen many at Oxy do the coffee break thing for hours downstairs. In fact it is pretty funny because it is the ame ones over and over, so I assume you are probably one of the ones I have seen many times. It says a lot about you when you can go down for hours a day while your co-workers do there job. Also, I never understand people like you that complain and slack off when you could go find a job somewhere else. You are just a chronic complainer from what I can tell. Again, just head down the road and stop being a loser to the company. I saw an article the other day where a CEO offered everyone that wanted to leave four months pay to just get them out of the company. I think Oxy needs to do the same. Offer just enough to get rid of people like you, and then hire someone that really wants to work and get paid well with all the benefits. I swear our society is so full of slackers and people who think they should be given things.

Definitely a lack of integrity and stealing from your employer who pays you.

Why are you complaining. You are paid well and at least for now you have job security. Many people would love to have your job even if you feel overworked. Just remember it is better to have more work to do than have too little. You just need to prioritize work and quit screwing off on the job. You are way off on your bit about management not working that hard. You have no clue unless you have had management experience and understand the responsibilities and all of the situations that need to be addressed during a typical week. You have to really like getting thrashed around to be in management.
