Everything is urgent

The problem with double workload is mostly in prioritizing work and all you need to do is set priorities better - sounds like a very good and simple advice. However, I don't know how it is with you, but with my manager everything is urgent? In practice, it is almost impossible to prioritize work when everything is #1 priority.

You are not the first person to have a boss that wants everything completed right now. The higher I moved up my career path, it was expected that I would take on more and more responsibilities. You are the best person to know where your time is needed and what to finish first.

In well run companies ... Corporate , business unit and personal goals will be aligned. I sat down with my manager usually at the yearly performance review ,rated the past year's work and reviewed next years overarching goals. My yearly goals setting was completed shortly after the review. Unless something drastic comes out of left field during the year, there should be no surprises for anyone regarding your goals and priorities. The year may turn out differently and hopefully your manager is mature enough to understand. We are highly paid professionals paid to problem solve ,project manage and find the grease. Good Luck!

You need to negotiate priorities. In the end your boss rules. If I were you I would work extra hours if you are salaried. That is really what you are paid to do. Otherwise if you want only 40 hours of work per week drop down to an hourly job or become an independent contractor. By the way contractors do not generally get bonuses or LTI.
