Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Going to office = safer job?

There are many who think that those who show up at the office every day will have greater job security if, that is, when cuts occur.

Really? What are the arguments?

Absolutely. Every time I was transferred to an international office my career at the home office suffered. Managers are just like the rest of the animals in the animal kingdom; they tend to bond to whom they see. I always came back with great work experiences from abroad but my peers in the home office were promoted during my absence. Took me significant time after I stopped the international rotation to catch up. Stay visible. Good luck!

Be careful what you wish for, if you can WFH your job might be out sourced to a lower bidder.

Yes, most certainly. Out of sight, out of mind.

I don’t think any manager would hold it against you for coming into the office. Always take the safer approach with something as important as your job. Job equals income. Income equals happiness.
