Less than 24 hours after New Jersey City University officials announced a “financial emergency,” employees at the Jersey City school began paying the price — virtual pink slips in their email.
At its quarterly meeting Monday, the board of trustees announced the school only had enough cash on hand for 25 days. Joseph Scott, chairman of the board, said in a letter to the community that a temporary 90-day budget would allow for “rightsizing,” a euphemism for layoffs and deep cuts.
