Thread regarding Bose layoffs

Any news on layoffs?

The atmosphere is very tense. Just checking if layoffs are already happening somewhere?

Makes sense. Offloading PPD is a substantial "reduction in force." I wonder what percentage of that force will get to keep their jobs. Pro bails out the company one last time, and it's a big long-term loss for Bose for a very short term gain. The history, back to the 800 (24 of them mounted in the ceiling at The Performance Center in Cambridge in the 1970's!), is being sold in desperation.

But if the division leadership plays this well, if could be a big boon for the division, to shed the Bose mismanagement at the very highest executive level. I wish them well. Akiro turned a division that was something of a laughingstock in the big time concert sound business into a real player in the field.

Do they get to keep the patents? What about the infrastructure in the Monster Lab and the parking lot?

I think the “layoffs” may be a part of the sale of pro and install. I’m surprised it hasn’t been announced yet. If that’s the case, they were notified months ago if not last fall.

Divisions and assets are life boats - we are letting them go one by one. Without facing the real issue.
I'll be real- I was an RDG employee and what it seemed like people wanted was stuff we stopped making.
We completely left money on the table with ECO1/ECO2 disaster. Customers loved our outdoor and some of the best products were stuff like 791/891s. Those products were great to sell they had no issues (generally) and reflected the brand. I always found it so disappointing that the innovation PRO did with thier unique speakers were not ever sent over to consumer side. We just plopped out products like the Micro, SoundLink Color and over spread ourselves to every reseller! Walmart come on! QVC yikes! I can only imagine how much WalMart hates our products because 1- We never update them, 2- We have our heads so far up our butts we refuse to lower the price down. But hey we hit perfect with the SoundSport wireless- lets keep em on the market for nearly a decade! People love the design and the mediocre battery life.

"I wonder if that sale of pro is some odd way to get around the “gift” that mit gets "
As I understood it at the time of that bizarre transaction, any dividend paid to MIT is at the discretion of the Bose BOD. But of course, everything is opaque, to protect the beneficiaries from scrutiny.

Bose Pro and OEM /AED have taken turns bailing the company our when consumer products were tanking for being three years late and three hundred dollars short. Pro bails the company out bigtime this year, by being sold. But this is their last bail out. One of the oldest divisions gone. Tragic.

"That way the current vp of pro can become CEO of that."
I'm a few years out. Is that still Akiira M.? That would be a huge loss for Bose. He made a company that was a laughingstock in pro sound reinforcement, and turned the division into a serious player in the field.

I wonder if that sale of pro is some odd way to get around the “gift” that mit gets and always Bose to tip toe into public companies without being publicy traded

With the last layoff and tons of resignations in the past 2 months not sure if the company could afford one more round of layoffs.

Good that I moved out. Good luck to all in bose. Such an unstable and very low paying company now

Someone asked about who is buying pro. It's going to be a equity firm buying that division. That way the current vp of pro can become CEO of that.

Why doesn't mgmt announce that there won't be a layoff this summer if that is the case?

If you're on the layoff list, your manager will know by the end of today. And your manager will probably not be brave enough to tell you (unless your manager knows that they are on the list, too).

Waiting for a layoff is very stressful. You know it’s coming and if you are not “well connected”, you don’t know if you are on the list.
Everyone just breathe!
