Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoffs

Greetings. Although I have wished for better times I felt now as good as ever to extend a hand of friendship. At Cerner we’ve had layoffs for +3 years preparing to be acquired. It’s the not-so-secrete plan hatched after our founder died of Cancer and the Board positioned the company to be sold.

I am extremely saddened to hear about the Oracle layoffs of today and likely tomorrow. I was eager to reestablish positive Team moral and a clean change in direction to put this unfortunate tool of cost cutting behind us. However it appears that Oracle may have more layoffs past this week into the future. The chilling effect will be extremely difficult to shake and “Leaders” always underestimate it.

At Cerner we’re as fearful as we’ve ever been as Oracle communications toward us have exclusively been vague platitudes with no concrete plan. I hazard to say at Cerner we’re not just eager for goodwill we’re desperate for it. And for layoffs to be occurring during this early phase will continue to increase a head for the exits which already plagues our over allocated workforce. The brain drain is real.

The layoffs are not of my doing but I wish to convey from your Cerner peers a heartfelt sympathy. We feel your confusion, frustration and dismay. We hope for a better time.

This is normal at Oracle. Expect nothing from the upper level management. This is not because of layoffs. It’s always this way. It won’t get better. Make your own plans. Get out of the company.

Cerner has been doing layoffs for the last few years to make themselves an attractive acquisition. Also, they rolled out unlimited PTO. Sounds great on the surface. But as a suspicious person, I always carried over 2 weeks to have that time "banked" in case of layoffs...or if I took a vacation early resulting in unaccrued vacation taken. Anyway, unlimited PTO wipes out all that accrued PTO time off their balance sheet. Or so I was told. Also, after Cerner's last layoff they dropped their max severance from 44 weeks to 30 weeks...and it quite a secret manner. Highly tenured employees who might have trouble finding work elsewhere were shocked and not happy when this was revealed.

Welcome to Oracle. I am genuinely sorry your transition is occurring under such circumstances, but many of us have been in your shoes and there is no ill will here. We are all in this together.

Based upon the recent congressional hearings, Cerner oversold the company and left Oracle responsible for the VA fiasco. https://www.fedscoop.com/rosendale-slams-oracle-cerner-ehr-rollout/

Cerner can not suffer any more layoffs and the exit of employees that is reported if they want to continue to be a leader in health information. I can tell you first hand Cerner is struggling to keep the lights and electricity on in the current conditions. More layoffs will be the demise of what Oracle payed billings to acquire. Cerner will lose the edge and go away.

The writing has been on the wall for Cerner for at least the last 5 years. Those who have stuck it out with Cerner out of loyalty, stubbornness, or whatever how are you feeling now? Burying your head in the sand, and just hoping it won’t happen to you is not a way to live your life. Stop everything you are doing for work, and freshen up your resume to apply for jobs. Have Cerner pay you to do this job search, schedule interviews during work hours. Cerner is not looking out for your so start looking out for yourself.

I remember when Cerner said there shouldn’t be surprises, lol.

Oracle and Cerner employees have gotten more information from the media than their own company. What a joke

Having worked with a couple of different companies that got acquired by Oracle before I was laid off myself by Oracle, I can tell you what you are experiencing is normal for Oracle. If there is a plan, they’re not sharing it with you because more than likely that plan doesn’t include your services in the long run. Even if you survive this round of layoffs, get your resume together, update LinkedIn and start actively plotting a way out. I hate to be doom and gloom but you’re better off proactively finding a way out as this is always the Oracle way. It only gets worse from here if you stay.

I hope morale is better over there. It's quite low over here and has been for weeks. The lack of communications and care is the worst out of all of this.
