More and more software is being offshored to foreign sweatshops.
I believe the article is lots of buzz and not the reality. It really comes down to the person’s location, turning and skill-set, not necessarily because she/he is from Shopify.
Be careful with LinkedIn offers. Many can be scams. Just don't put any $ upfront and if a job is too good to be true, it probably is. Make sure to research the name of the recruiter and make sure the phone number to call back belongs to that person. In times like these, there are a lot of predators out there looking to take advantage of people who are desperate for jobs.
I've received a lot of requests to connect, but I refused them because I do not know these people. It may be they are looking to create a fake network of credible professionals. Then rope in susceptible job seekers. Some may be legit but just be careful anyways.
I don't keep linkedin premium, but in uncertain times, it's not a bad thing to have. Re-up with premium, turn on the bits that let recruiters know you're on the hunt, and make sure your profile is up to date and that you've dropped all the typical buzzwords that will get you through the ATS in use by most larger companies. If you do a good job and have marketable skills you'll have plenty of recruiters knocking on your door within a few weeks. I must have put in 90+ applications when I was laid off... but this is what did it for me. Recruiters are where it's at.
