Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

To all my CWA counterparts out there. What are your opinions on the new contact that we just ratified?

Go compare it to “other” competition contracts that were just ratified and you should have your answer! Keep in mind, due to previous scared negotiated contracts, we are around $5/hr behind our industry brothers in compensation package heading into this ratified contract…and the gap is only getting bigger it looks like. This Union does not know how to “read the room” when negotiating and this management knows that thus, the early bargaining the company asked for or as the union brethren will tell you…the show of “good faith” to employees by the company ;))))) Rock On Minions!!

EPT’s are not trained on copper and Lumen has a long ways to go until their fiber build out is complete. You have nothing to worry about for 5-10 years or even more. Just because they replace the copper doesn’t mean potential “new” customers will automatically switch providers. This is a huge expense… Lumen has to place all the fiber, then have it spliced (correctly), sell it to potential customers, then have it installed and maintained. The aerial fiber overlay will be done at a possibly decent rate (a couple years or so) but there is so much buried copper which will be a big undertaking. That won’t happen quickly and in Phoenix we already have EPT’s quitting. When I was hired by US West all I heard was the copper was going away and we were all doomed. I am still here today and work 85% copper to 15% fiber daily. The company surplussed too many net techs last summer and are still paying for it by begging for us to work OT and approving double time. They’ve realized they can’t just hire EPT’s and easily replace a net tech. They aren’t trained to work on the majority of its plant which is copper and this goes for every state where the EPT is in place.

It’s garbage. No job protection. If they want to surplus net tech/broadband tech and keep EPC’s, they completely can. And those raises will mean nothing to guys on the street looking for work. I’m getting out of this union asap!
