I am underpaid as it is for how much I work and now I'm expected to continue working for even less pay? Not going to happen. This is probably what they hope will happen. They cut salaries to get people to walk away on their own. I know I'm playing right into their hands, but I don't care. I'm leaving the first chance I get.

I don't get paid enough to do what I do now. I have an editor who literally thinks I work too hard when putting together stories of quality. "Why get the expert source? No context needed on your story! Just write it!"
I try to "just write it" but there's a part of me that refuses to let my byline go down. I do freelance for major publications as well so that allows me to do real journalism and hopefully will act as an escape hatch.
I get paid too little as it is. I'm not sure how long I will continue there if\when I get the pay cut. The layoff might almost be kind at this point.
Hopefully Mike Reed makes loads of money on his shady stock purchase and continues to collect $7 million in annual compensation while the company burns. Workers are already paid well below market, have not received raises for 3 years, and now they get to make less money while the clowns that caused the problems hoard stock and ill begotten compensation. One can only hope that people realize that Gannett is a lost cause and find employment at other places that are properly managed.
I feel you, over time I have "collected" jobs from others who were let go. Zero pay increase for that work. I stayed because I love the people I work with. Now they are closing my office, the thing I love is going away. pay affected, 401k affected, but those at the top still rake in piles of cash. I will stick around but eventually, it won't be worth it.
