Thread regarding Overstock.com Inc. layoffs

executive responsibility

Let me guess - not a single high level executive is actually going to be considered responsible for completely failing to understand the reality of the world we live in...Maybe they need to hire more vice presidents and not give anyone raises while making record profits again...because leadership :-*

Without being too specific, I love producing insights for execs in a verrrrryyy granular way to find a tiny drag that somehow explains the hemorrhaging.

You want to know something fun? Overstock has higher margin rates than ever before, which means that no matter what the President says our prices have increased faster than inflation. The high margins are being used to fund marketing initiatives. We're getting more traffic to the site, but fewer conversions. Which means we're ja--ing up prices to fund ad campaigns that get people to the site but they don't buy anything because the prices are too high to fund the ad campaigns. So their solution is to fire people. I guess the financial recipe card is more important than employees' lives
