Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Workload isn't distributed fairly

While some barely manage to get everything done on time despite years of experience, others barely do anything at all. I have a colleague who no longer even tries to pretend to be doing anything. This is not only unfair, but also a great demotivator. As far as I'm concerned, the distribution of work has never been worse!?

Sounds like this OP's colleague is a prime candidate for WFR. But the way it works at HP, if this lazy colleague has enough pals in the right positions to vouch for him, he'll probably remain while some others end up getting the axe.

HP has for decades taken had the "good 'ole boy" approach when it comes to layoffs. If you're not one of the "do nothing" good 'ole boys, you'll be at the top of the layoff list.

@pyb: Ha... Worse... probably system management. Marketing does, to an extent, do some work with powerpoints and spreadsheets. SMs just email people all day bothering them about PLC deadlines.

@OP: Some people can get away with it until ARC comes up and they have a hard time looking for people to vouch for them. Frankly it sounds like your buddy has a bad manager.

Historically business existed to create value for shareholders - people who hold shares of stock and care about business to prosper. Those days are gone. Shareholders are gone, Only speculators remain. The LET pander to them by constant stock buy back fueled by WFR. I congratulate your colleague. I try to emulate him at every turn.
