Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

Is it true that contractors are paid more?

The workload is unmanageable. They hire new contractors to do the same job as actual employees and PAY THEM MORE!

I hope this is not true.

This is true, plus benefits. Nonunion companies are also paying more and providing better benefits. Much cheaper for a company not to have to deal with Unions.

It depends on your experience level. For the same experience, generally contractors make more .. but when you factor in the lack of benefits, vacation time ... it's a lot closer.

They tend to be the first to be let go (normally with little or no notice) when there are job cuts. They don't get paid time off or holidays or medical. They don't necessarily make more per hour either. They are not allowed to participate in employee events, etc. and constantly looking for new opportunities because there is no stability in being a contractor.

It's always been true.

They like consultants because you can let them go whenever you want.

They make more, but have to pay for their own benefits and have little to no job security.
