Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

CIO is no longer with HCSC

So, he was fired? IT is a very inefficient, ineffective organization. It has been for a long time. Is there more to come with other executives as well?

Replying to “ HCSC’s business is full of leaders and teams who spend enormous resources building shadow IT groups that do basic IT work and claim to know all because they read something on google.”

Yes, this is a problem is most organizations. Somebody reads too much “Tech Disrupt” and signs a contact with an outside vendor that has only been in business 2 years. Trains themselves on Linked In and changes their e-mail signature to say “Digital Servant Leader”

Next thing you know someone hosts PII or PHI or Classified Business Plans in their google drive.
Here let’s try this. Share, AnyoneWithTheLink
Yay it works. High5 on that one Bro. Post that link on slack so we can remember it.

To the other post: there WAS an official announcement inside the company. Maybe you did not receive it? What kind of official announcement were you expecting that the company didn’t do? And how did you learn of the change, then? Wondering if there has been a change from how things used to be communicated. I do think things will change more in IT. Needs to happen with the IS group of employees too. Refocus on what is most important for the business and jettison the rest.

Shadow IT groups get things done that IT can not get done. The IT group needs management that is focused and held accountable. The warm bodies being shifted around without application and business knowledge does not work.

HCSC’s business is full of leaders and teams who spend enormous resources building shadow IT groups that do basic IT work and claim to know all because they read something on google. These teams impact delivery , make irresponsible choices and impede whatever little progress IT makes - HCSC’s d-mb business and inefficient IT are a match made in heaven. They pushed out a CIO that was at least trying to build some structure into IT operations, replacement was more focused on earning business for his own company than making any actual improvements at HCSC IT. But we all know nothing terrible will happen as members still need insurance and will pay their premiums- so money will keep coming in and we will continue wasting it.
