Considering the amount of work I do, I am far from a fairly compensated employee. And then the manager comes in with his unrealistic expectations, trying to add even more to my plate. Does anyone take their expectations seriously anymore?
I don't believe that there are still that many naive people who would agree to be totally overwhelmed and underpaid, just out of fear of losing their jobs.

Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.
Why don't you become a union rep, you get to do less project work while your colleagues have to take on extra work to cover for you.
This is a free country and you are free to find another job. I don't feel bad for you.
