Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Creative layoff

Ming boggling getting laid off after 5+ years with this company. Being on the creative team and taking away my access 10 minutes after the HR meeting is disrespectful. That computer become my main device at home with personal files, pictures, and passwords...we don't get time to get that back? Barley had enough time to let my pod know I was let go.

The director couldn't "make it" to my exit however said she cared about all of us. That's BS. No malicious intent just ridiculous. I bet the director everyone on the team disliked is still on the team :) Good job.

If you look on your laptops, you are not the administrator or user with admin rights, 2U is. When IT wants to access your computer to fix something, they can do it remotely and 'take over' your computer because they are the primary administrator and they have the most control over your machine.

2U has that access through the VPN, which is what you are joining when you log into work and to 2U's stuff each day (like Jira or documents or anything behind the 'wall').

You are just a user with a profile on their computer with only enough rights to do your job (which is why you cannot download some things etc) , so to turn you off, they just have to change the rights of you as a user or burn the user.

But for anyone still working at 2U, be careful what you do on the computer. Don't load it up with personal stuff, Google personal stuff, etc. They can have access even to the Google history on your work user account.

I think it's done quickly so that it doesn't give time for ex-2utes to do anything malicious. Also everytime you restart your laptop you must click that button that says you are only using your laptop for work reasons so shouldn't have any personal photos or what not on there.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. I work closely with the creative team and I’m shocked by who was let go. Literally some of THE BEST folks I’ve ever worked with.

This also happened to me earlier. After the HR call, they IMMEDIATELY revoked my access to everything so I wasn't even able to say a proper goodbye to anyone. Luckily, I had already saved everything important just in case.

The rush made it seem like they just wanted to get it over with. Giving us our severance before immediately giving the boot. Disappointed but not surprised
