Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

Moving to 11:11 and 365, bad move!?!?

Lots of Sungard people taking positions with 11:11 and 365 who bought piece parts of Sungard. I have seen this so many times in the past and history has a way of repeating itself. Those SG people took positions these companies already have people in. They don't already have someone in a VP of Ops that HG took? They don't already have network and security experts? They brought SG people over to transition the accounts, fo knowledge transfer and give themselves time to absorb them and then let the SG people go. Maybe keep some that are high end performers but most of those were let go already months ago or left on their own.

Maybe I am being pessimistic but the reality is why do you need so many people doing the same job. Thoughts?

The RS portal was spear-headed by a development manager in San Ramon. That place is long gone but I heard this dev manager was a hot shot silicon valley technologist. So what's the story? Are the powers-that-be in 11:11 going to get him?

Cortez, thanks for some positive news. I knew it, no way will sgas go down without a plan. I agree it all lives on in a different shape, this time in this new company. I devoted so many years to sgas so I'm all in. I did some work on the RS portal so this is exciting.

@2lik+1jAawjxh have written, "Sungard that 11:11 acquired is bigger than all of 11:11. There is not as much redundancy as you might think. Time will tell."

This is emotional statement for me, proudness for sungard I am feeling now. My manager has describe situation in critical state, sungard employees contain knowlege to be necessary in 11:11 company. So now for new management there is study of Sungard products, look to key features in RS portal and edison project so they figure out if can use past features in new way. knowledge from sungard people is important. I am excited when my manager explain the plan. Sungard spirit will live so much. larga vida a sungard!

Be pessimistic. Engineer for the worst case scenario.

At the same time consider how someone like yourself could take the mantle as to how it's done and become the leader the just barley deserve.

Know that going in. Each phase of the process is an opportunity to launch to something else. I left well before the sale. Sure, times are even tougher now with everyone and their brother doing tech layoffs at the moment, but waiting till you're ultimately deemed redundant by one of the new owners will only make things more difficult for yourself.

Be pessimistic! Constructive pessimism is a good thing! :)
