Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

What can make people quit without having another job lined up?

I hear more and more cases of people taking such a risk. I would never dare to do something like that, especially now.

I quit Oracle without another job because I was done being verbally abused my manager, who was a d$@k. I had enough savings so I didn't care, but I found another job one month later at another big Tech company. If you've been in the business for a long time, it's not hard to find another job in our industry.

I know not everyone can just quit, and I'm lucky to have had savings, so didn't worry about paying my bills. I don't recommend it for everyone, but Oracle management doesn't value its people, so why should we value staying?

I did it thrice due to bad manager (2 times) and bad salary (1 time). I do not have the relevant skill in industry after 16 years of experience to repeat it.

Quitting without first securing a job? Now, at the end of the year when hiring freezes always happen? That has got to be the d-mbest decision you can possibly make. You’ll regret it when you’re still looking for work many months from now.

Clearly you need to spend more time in the metaverse.

That's a very good question. What indeed?

I quit programming job couple of years ago. I was never happier like now. Growing your own food is like printing your own money.

That's a heckuva way to live, I tip my hat to you. If you can find local farms, and set up a cooperative and do some good old trading, maybe you can get some eggs and meat. I am a huge believer in the barter system, it worked for centuries.

I'm not quite there yet, but We have local farms here so I get my vegetables eggs and pork from them, and I make 99% of my own foods and even make my own soaps, for bath and laundry. My skin has never been healthier.

Don’t spend. And 100% debt free. Since I no longer eat junk food and disgusting supermarket produce, I have zero medical cost. The only tax I pay is property tax.

So true…

“ great developer has a job no matter what”

There is alot money out there.
Big Tech is in trouble no matter what.
SEC & DOJ are targeting Big Tech Corp
They are protecting stockholders not necessarily shareholders - over valuing and misleading the public
Didn’t mention Oracle - good grief they’ll stop investigating once they start with O.
They don’t care about upper mgmt and how much they make or are worth.
They get rewarded based on amount recovered or misused.
Bard on one article. Oracle seems to be on rhe SEC radar re: interval control poricedures. They don’t forget.

As they say “make $ the American way, inherit it.” There’s a lot of $ out there and a great developer has a job no matter what.

What can make people quit before they line up new jobs? That's easy. It happens every time they stop replenishing the astroglide in the office medicine cabinet. I mean let's see YOU go into your boss' office for your "1-on-1" without it.

Well this can go one of several ways, Intolerable toxicity, retirement, unexpected windfall, a principled idiom or you threw a tantrum and did so in haste.

I've seen all of them and the last one is the only that is not a valid reason.

I left over a year ago. I had to leave for my mental health. It’s tough being around people who are unnecessarily cruel with no reproach. I took off about 6 months to recharge and have been in my new role for almost a year and have gained so much of the self-esteem I lost while at Oracle. Take care of yourself.
