Those who had skills left this place a long time ago. That's a fact. Most of the rest of us are here only because we don't have enough skills to find something better.
However, those who were cut a while ago, some of whom I am still in contact with, have in the meantime significantly upgraded their skillset and now work in much better companies where they do not have to constantly worry about being cut. So, for many, the cuts were a much needed push to learn and progress. This time around I would rather be a target, than to continue wasting time here always wondering when the next cuts are.

The writing was on the wall for months about upcoming layoffs, so anyone who gets whacked have only themselves to blame for not trying to find something else outside of HP. I know many people who've been at HP for decades and never expanded their technical skills one iota. They have a super narrow skillset that would be of zero value outside of HP. HP is a place where careers come to die.
I was WFR'd several years ago and I am now in a much better company. No constant layoff threats and I'm able to grow my skills.
