It was to be expected. It was a one week shut down and how has expanded to a 2 week shut down at the end of the year. All HPI offices will close on Dec 19 till Jan 3, 2023

I’ve been searching for a good job since I heard the rumors about furloughs and layoffs at HP. I finally escaped with a 40% salary increase. I really liked my job at HP but I need steady work and a good stable company.
I assume this really is the CW furlough. If so, it has happened every year for as long as I've been here (2015) and is nothing new.
I don't see any fiscal benefit for an extra week off for regular, salaried, employees - at least in the US with the new "unlimited" vaca policy next year. Either people will be pushed into a negative balance next year which would be meaningless as I can't see them clawing back compensation, or it is time that would have been "lost" anyway for those that haven't planned to burn down all of their PTO.
My manager forgot to allow for an exemption for me to work Dec 19-22, so I am off for an extra week too. This is at the Corvallis site.
This is indeed happening.
This is absolutely not across all BUs within the US. I'm within IT/Cyber and there have been no such announcements.
I am hearing conflicting information. Looks like it might be an extended shut down per your division and within that division it is up to the manager to decide who will work and who stays home. It might be just contract workers but then again I am hearing conflicting stories.
I am an HP employee in the US. The official shutdown is between Dec 23rd and Jan 2nd.
Some people are working but your manager has to request an exception. This includes agency workers.
"I got the email this morning. All of HP in the USA."
No, you haven't.
I am a CW and I also got an email from my agency today. Confirmed, all of HP in the USA will be closed from Dec 19 to Jan 2, returning on Jan 3. Only special divisions will stay operating, but most will be closed.
I got the email this morning. All of HP in the USA.
I haven’t heard anything. Where did you hear this?
