Thread regarding Accenture layoffs

Why does Tier 1 Consulting Industry pay less than Tier 1 Tech Industry?

Why does Tier 1 Consulting Industry pay less than Tier 1 Tech Industry when consulting candidates often go to better schools? For example a software engineer will easily make 200K total compensation at a FAANG company while making 130K total comp at a Tier 1 consulting company is a stretch.

Thoughts?

@4flq+1jgyuKmT Agree times a thousand. They want people that can actually do things vs say things. The world is changing where they newscasters full of overbloated paychecks are finally getting poped by the sharp pin of reality of who can create.

You work in management consulting and you can't figure this out? We definitely won't be hiring your firm on our next project.

I have been in consulting 10 years and another 10 years in software industry, both of broad scope. Expertise required in the software industry is more in-depth and substantial to produce software or service that can stand test and use for many years. Consulting projects are more of one- off and full of failures and b...s. My pay in tech company (not FANNN) almost doubles my pay in consulting. never want to go back.

The reality is the location of the job and the cost of living matter. FAANG Companies generally are concentrated in a relatively few small places where the cost of living is higher…Silicon Valle/, San Fran/ Seattle, etc…. Supply and demand has a big part of it too….being hired at a large name company .. has some professional gravitas to it….Now in 2022 post pandemic with work from home options in tech- that changes the game.
