Many of us wouldn’t mind being laid off. I wouldn’t, for sure. The only reason I’m hoping to keep the job for a while longer is because the tech job market is still in a really bad shape. Some of my former colleagues have been looking for a job for almost a year now, and some found a job a couple of months after they were laid off, but less paid. We are all, unfortunately, now cornered.

If you would not mind being laid off, then leave, so your headcount opens up for someone willing to be at the company! I definitely would not want you as employee at my company.
Calling them performance based is cr-ppy.
Anyone that leaves Microsoft during that time will have a stigma.
