Thread regarding BD (Becton Dickinson & Co.) layoffs

Share your "OMG" moments

Come on, I'm sure many of us have experience OMG moments at BD that made us rethink our careers. Share them for the world to see! For example:

I attended a number of closed door meetings at Franklin Lakes during the initial stages of the Covid pandemic where the Operation leads of a certain BU kept celebrating and cheering for World Wide progress of the virus due to its potential to increase sales. I had observed a similar behavior in earlier years with the start of the flu season, but this was beyond sick a predatory. They all laughed, clapped, and celebrated.

What you got?

I had to go on a company trip for an event that required a long flight. I was told I had to fly in a coach because we were limiting expenses. There were a couple more associates in coach. Coincidentally, we were on the same flight that all senior executives, vice presidents, etc., were on to get to the event. Every single one of them flew first class, where there was a $6,000 difference for each ticket. After we landed, one of the VPs approached me and asked me to not share they all had traveled first class because some people might get the wrong impression. Sure, while they are pinching pennies and laying off critical and smart resources, executives are living the high life and letting the champagne flow in first class.

Joining my first team as a Software Engineer in IDS only to realize that most of the other Software Engineers don't know how to code and have never, and will never contribute code to the project. These are Senior and Staff engineers that don't know how to use Git.

Some of these people have gotten promotions. Smart people have been laid off.

SDS let go so many people July-Sept 24, only to realize in Jan that they actually need them and will now rapidly hire and turn loose on customers untrained and unskilled employees to do upgrades. It is an absolute sh-tshow. More is being put on people’s plate than can be managed creating more upset customers.

Got lots of them but here is my favorite. We have an internal group that provides services to the BU’s. They often send some of this work overseas at a heavily discounted rate. However, when they crossbill the BU, they bill them the full US rate. We are talking millions of dollars in overcharges per year. Incompetence on so many levels!

That is beyond disturbing but I’m not surprised one bit. Bd’s leadership used to be pre madonnas conservative old fashion white dudes and now it’s still the same old sh* except these guys are incompetent, completely out of touch with the organization and rely on some bullsh-t Voa Survey to get a pulse .. give me a break Tom ur so damn clueless and so is the entire leadership community from central to functional to regional to BU.. lies after lies .. it’s sickening because the mission of this company is a great one but the place is being run down by incompetence, phonies, liars , shmoozers who accomplish zero, no one is held accountable ..

There's a VP who plays it very cool for his team. But behind closed doors, he's extremely insecure and holds vendettas against anyone that corrects or contradicts him during a meeting. He is responsible for over 20 layoffs of people he felt didn't like him. Even though they were qualified and doing great work.

Ethics does nothing anyway. 1 year out from complaint and never contacted.

A Sr Manager had various harassment complains, but HR avoided to document them at all cost. His victims no longer work at BD, but he is still around with a clean record.
