Tariffs

If the tariffs are placed on Canadian oil & gas, what impact will that have on the Canadian business unit?

The orange buffoon won’t be able to stick to his own script for more than a week. It’s going to be a weird 4 years.

Alberta oil sands production has high costs to develop and produce. Any increase in US production will likely reduce world oil prices. Relatively small price reductions will have big impacts on our Canadian profit margins since they are already razor thin. Shut-downs are not advisable since they complicate future viability and operation of the “reservoir”. So we may find ourselves in the position (once again) of continuing unprofitable production at the expense of our profitable operations. Not a good position to be in and the long line of executives responsible for this predicament should be exposed and held accountable.

@md+1jj15w63z Justin is that you? Don't worry, he will keep CA sovereign - but you will have to go for your unjust and evil governance.

@jf+1jj15w63z You don't seem to have a great understanding of why we import Canadian oil. It isn't because the US doesn't already have enough oil, its only that we can't efficiently refine the oil we produce due to aged refineries built in the 70s when heavy oil is all we could get our hands on. Unless we find a heavier oil reserve in the US, the only way we can maximize our refinery runs is to us heavy oil which must be imported. Trump can change the reality on the ground no matter what the political topic de jeur is.

Trump says he will declare a national energy emergency to increase oil and gas production in the United States. These creates uncertainty on the future of exports from Alberta.

Canada’s oil is exported to the United States, 90 per cent of that comes from Alberta. So if they increase US production they may not have a need for Ab oil.

Same concerns for the China BU.

Trump’s Presidency will be helpful to us in some ways and harmful in others

Tariffs will probably make our unprofitable Canadian business unit even more unprofitable.
