I think I will be WFRed this time as I'm a low bar employee who does mediocre work. Can I claim unemployment in MA? What is required to keep getting unemployment if I want to take some extended time off? Is it automatic?

The DEll severance (2 months or more with bonus etc) is a settlement in Massachusetts. You must provide Mass Unemployment with a copy of the settlement agreement and then can start collecting immediately. You get 30 weeks and I got about $30,000. You need to keep a log of applying to 3 jobs a week and attend some virtual training classes. Try to call them in addition to setting up a profile on their website to alert them that it is a settlement. They are very used to processing EMC/ Dell employees in Massachusetts. Return your laptop and sign the severance agreement ASAP. Get the tracking number for the laptop because sometimes they claim it was not sent back (lap tops go to the warehouse). One more thing be careful with Cobra. You must actively go into the Dell health portal and check a box saying you want it otherwise your prescriptions and health receipts will bounce. Good news you are covered for the two months even if you sign up late.
#truth for MA employees, no need to wait.
Yes, as someone who was WFR'd from Dell in MA, you can collect unemployment from the go. Dell requires you sign an indemnity document to receive your payout and MGL states that is considered a "settlement" not "severance". You will have to have earned at least $6,300 during each of the last four completed calendar quarters. DUA benefits last up to 6 months.
yes, absolutely you can claim unemployment. However, you cannot collect until your severance runs out.
you get 2 months of time automatically from Dell... paid medical, etc.
After that you get 1 week of severance for every year you served MSD... been at Dell for 5 years, you get 5 weeks of pay.
After the initial 2 months you can purchase COBRA medical (expensive but not like there is another option)
After 13 weeks (2 months plus 5 weeks) you can collect unemployment.
You can APPLY for it earlier, so you don't lose out on any money coming to you.... but you cannot collect un after the 2 months and severance is "used up"
why it takes so long for you to get WFRed?
I have always been able to slip between the cracks so to speak. A reorg gives me breathing space with a new manager and new team every six months. But my manager has me figured out.

To the poster, it actually sounds like you are senior manager/executive material. You should stay and wait to get promoted.
Yes, unless you get severance. Then you have to wait however many weeks severance covers you for, then claim once that coverage is over.
if you get laid off you can claim unemployment. You will have to file for it and you have to show you are trying to find a new job.
You should go to work for Joe Biden's family.
What marketing teams will be impacted?
Yeah if you’re a middle of the road employee and want a layoff, that absolutely means you’re going to survive the blast and have to keep working here… ask me how I know…

No worries, you're safe ; )
