Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Co-location mandate

It's not a matter of which orgs, it's when. It's rolling thunder and all orgs at IBM will soon be affected with this co-location mandate. Best to prepare to either move or be laid off. Whichever hits first, or worse, you move then you are laid off. Ugh. Good luck everyone.

Exactly what @15k+1jh5vv8xz said.

Heard from a few ppl in CIO to relocate or take a 3 month package. And so the wheels keep spinning on RTO! Ugh!

IBM seems to be using all the options to induce layoffs without calling them layoffs: PIPs/performance review, RTO, mandates to move or change location/role (then they reset the contract, hence no severance, which is what they've just done at Microsoft)

I know 3 people in CIO that got super commuter approved one week after the RTO mandate was announced.

There hasn’t been a supercommuter option in the parts of the company that have been RTO’d.

Wondering if they’ll at least offer a “super commuter” option for those of us barely over the 50 mile mark from an office. I’m not moving for IBM.

Most people are too irrational to be integers.

I wish them best of luck, finding new qualified and integer people. I'm pretty much sure this wonderful AI will never have abilities to replace certain activities that require human expertise and insight. But... who cares. The motivation for this wonderful exit tooling probably isn't about that.

Only an id--t would move for the sole reason of keeping most any job, especially one at IBM

I know people who have relocated across the country to be in offices only to be let go within a few months.

Yes, I heard this is starting in Feb right after the upcoming earnings call. Heads up...

Good advice. If you are on the list, you have been targeted and they will be getting rid of you one way or another. Don't believe a word they say about functions or shifts in priority.

Even those that are already colocated, you are still at risk. Don't ruin your career trying to jump from team to team to run from layoffs, the axe doesn't care where you were or where you are. It's so sad and not the IBM a lot of us used to know, please look out for yourselves.
