I’ve heard March. Does anyone know when the next round is? I’ve heard Consulting is going to be hit pretty hard.

If I were a CEO making over $30 million a year and my job depends on saving money for the company and shareholders, I would move as many jobs as possible to India, Mexico etc…
Yes also for Europe. Announced via EWC.
Arvind K. said to laidoff IBMers: “Welcome to Walmart “
AK said: “IBM has been this huge ultimate American for me, as I got to collect dozens of millions from compensation and am moving many thousands of jobs to my dear homeland India: long live IBM, aka India Business Mafia”
How do I volunteer to be on the Layoff list? 40 Years in, White Male, late 60s, located in Infrastructure. You would think that I would have a bullseye on my back.
My last day, 3/31. That's a relief.
Misspoke on my last post. Lowell MA.
Littleton MA USA info is obviously fake - any IBM person knows the situation in Littleton, MA USA
Can confirm Littleton, MA, USA laid of some consultants this am, not sure about anyone else.
They will want people to be gone before the end of the first half of the year. Valentine’s Day can’t be correct - layoffs are not done on Friday’s
Considering you are in Canada...
Once you get 2yrs of severance payment (ie like your salary) at once , you must also think how this will be taxed. Is there any escape from horrendous taxes there at least for SEVERANCE PAY!
Possibly 1yr of severance payment you will be required to pay out of 2 yrs severance as TAXES! These level of salaries in tech it is highly possible most people will be on 50%+ tax band at year end.
Why even a severance payment is taxed at all ? you loose your job and give 1yr of non-work-severance income to government out of 2 for what ?
one way to delay perhaps which calendar year severance will be paid ... 50% in 1 year, 50% in 2nd year. not sure if this is possible. Even it is possible who would want to do that in high inflation high volatility environment... lets say gross 250k /year. the math then tells 500k severance= Taxes 228K , Net 271K. if you get now and next year beginning 250 + 250 then , 942 tax , 1552 net income= 310K. Even so that does not count inflation losses and lost opportunity cost on total when not take at once..

Reporter from The Register here (tclaburn (at) theregister.com). I'm looking it layoffs at the Finance and Operations business unit -- a relocation order. If anyone wants to chat confidentially, feel free to get in touch.
In Ontario Canada, based on common law precedent, if you have a great performance record and IBM is not able to spin it to say you were let go for cause, then you may be able to collect one month per year of service, to a maximum of 24 months in most cases. They don't just hand this over though - you have to hire a lawyer and fight, and I understand the lawyer takes something like 35% so best case for a lifer at IBM might be to walk away with 16 months. Before anybody in the US starts to get jealous, keep in mind that we get paid similar amounts in terms of the dollar figure, but everything here costs about 50% more than it costs there, so we spend a lifetime paying more for everything and then get this little payoff at the very end of a long career, and not without a potentially stressful and unpleasant fight.

"we were all given 2 years salary as compensation + unemployment payment for 2 years"
Just for comparison, in the US severance is 1-3 months and you get health insurance for 6 months. Individual health insurance can easily be $1000 a month, and a lot more if you have dependents. 2 years' compensation is almost unheard of, unless you had evidence of some major wrongdoing, like being stripped na--d and whipped by your FLM, and even then, I'm pretty sure IBM's lawyers and HR would find a way to spin it as your fault or bury it because what is the BCG for but a blueprint of rules to be violated that have about as much value as toilet paper?
2 years would be an insanely good buyout in the U.S. I bet a good number of people would've taken it. I would've taken it and danced a jig on my way out if they'd offered me that.
The only exception to your statement is the jobs of Alvind and most of his Pipmunks will be untouched this year.
Anybody heard anything about the MCC?
The useless report writers with “partner” or “global” in their name will hunker down and be just fine
I was just told valentine's day is when the notices will start going out. wonder if they will provide the His & Hers beforehand? Consulting, if you are on the bench smooch, buh bye. No packages either. don't let the door hit ya...IBM is now nothing more than a body shop consulting outfit with some expensive talent which will be retired soon.
Will there be spring layoffs? Of course there will. IBM has already stated 2025 will be a replay of 2024, BUT IBM has upped the cost take out in 2025 by 500 million to 3.5 billion total . So what should we expect?
- 2024 saw approx a10k NA head count reduction, so expect maybe something slightly more.
- 2024 results showed consulting revenue down. Remember the industry mantra “as goes revenue so goes head count” so expect consulting to be impacted. There is a secondary impact here. IBM grew consulting via acquitions in 2024. Those heads were brought in to boost utilization and not to expand a shrinking revenue base. That means consulting will have a double cull, with lower utilization going out.
- SW’s strategy of buying innovations vs developing it, means companies who have been bought more than a year ago can expect their legacy support to be moved to lower cost countries. This means SW will always be experiencing a layoff as the product portfolio ages.
- Infrastructure has finally acknowledged that only enterprise matters as that’s where the SW that pays the rent resides. That means anything on the scaleout side of the ledger (servers, storage, cloud, and TSS), are in the target zone, and will be partnered out
NET net 10-12k worth of employees will be impacted over 2 waves One in the spring and one in the fall (eg same as 2024)

@cv Would you share which country/org you are in? Thx
200 total in our org, split over 2 quarters
Former CIO employee in Madrid Center, fired last march 2024 along with other 10 colleagues, then other 4 people from other BU were laid off as well. In our case we were asked to go to a team meeting and after a very embarrassing situation telling some people to leave the room, we were all fired immediately, all together in the same meeting room. After some lawyer's actions, we were all given 2 years salary as compensation + unemployment payment for 2 years (1200-1400€/m). So what's legal in Spain, basically.
If my RA experience is still valid (it was many years ago), then the employee meetings with management will start in about 3 weeks (first week in March). You'll be given 30 days to clean up your affairs...stop attending meetings, don't answer e-mails, don't send e-mails, no conference calls, instant messaging, video meetings. Stop all participation in any projects you are working...no check outs, no check ins. You will drop off the face of the earth, and you and your now former coworkers will have no contact.
At the end of those 30 days, you will meet with an IBM manager. You'll turn in your security badge, your laptop, and anything else that belongs to the company. They'll give you a paper check, point you to the door, and tell you to have a nice day.
If Consulting is to be hit, they should start with Mohammed Ali who is incompetent and incapable - he is only in his position because he is yet another Indian friend from Alvind's past.
Layoff will certainly happen in March or April, it is irrevocable.
I could totally see them hitting something totally unrelated systems infrastructure / software AI .
April? Like you were told or that’s what you heard?
IBM Consulting results were a disaster, so of course they are going to get hit hard. Get ready…
April here.
