Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

Just want to document this for the historical purposes and people doing the research on the company

As of January 2023, Illumina reported having approximately 10,200 full-time employees, 60 part-time employees, and 1,400 contingent workers. Over the past year, the company reduced its workforce by about 12%, bringing the total number of employees to around 9,300 at the start of 2024

More layoffs headed to Illumina probably in June. The are moving a lot of what they call “indirect” contributors to India. This last layoff took down the entire purchasing dept (mgr as well). They kept a couple buyers whose focus is NPI. They’ll be moving planning…then remainder of supply chain area next. They’ve been slowly gearing up personnel in India for about 6 months.

Wow, thats terrible! I'm sorry they said that. And I'm surprised they told you that- it seems like they keep the real reasons to themselves. What group were you in?

I was just laid off and I was told one reason is because they want to eliminate senior contributor roles so that they can hire more junior contributors.

and now it'll get even worse.

it's amazing how much damage a few incompetent leaders can cause.

they should start any clean up at the very top.
