Thread regarding Follett layoffs

drinking water

Has anyone else had an issue with not getting their water coolers refilled or cleaned? My manager who took over the store 2 years ago hasn't refilled it since.

I complained to the HR number and they said, although the OSHA requirement for employers to provide drinking water does not apply, there are water fountains down the hall you can use.
Of course you have to leave the store to use them and they would have to give us enough breaks for that. I'm wondering if this is a widespread issue with the new Follett owners thinking the rules don't apply or if it's just at my store.

There are a ton of things to complain about concerning Follett but this is not one of them. If you have drinking fountains down the hall then that qualifies as potable water for OSHA. I've never in my 35 years of retail jobs heard of companies providing water the way you are describing it in this post.

Water is a basic human right.
Pennies for water in the store is going to break the company but the hundreds of thousands for VPs in the Ivory Tower is money well spent!

Yeah, water for the hired help in the stores! What an incredible expense!
Not like the VIPs in the Ivory Tower!
Of course they have water!

That's funny - what an unnecessary store expense.
Of all the issues in the store to complain about...

Seriously, many employees are worried about keeping their jobs and you’re worried about the water cooler. Just bring a couple of inexpensive bottles of water with your lunch each day.

My old store told us to stop paying for it years ago but we could buy bottled water in the summer because it was a a hot weather state

I was with follett from 2009-2023 and never had water provided. Is that really a thing?

HR isn't there to protect the employees it's there to protect the Ivory Tower.
Cheers!
