Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

You should be looking for a new job

Every single person working at Centene should be looking for a new job. It's time to accept that this place has nothing left to offer, other than constant layoffs and benefit cuts. I'm always surprised that attrition here is not significantly higher. In any case, I hope I'll be gone soon enough and won't have to care anymore.

Im sure this shows in your work ethic day to day and you’ll get canned on the next round.

“I hope I'll be gone soon enough and won't have to care anymore.”

That part. THAT PART.

They care so much about getting out. But they’re too scared to put their name on the block. You do realize you don’t have to stay here right? If you’re that desperate to get out? You don’t care? You don’t want this job so GO. For the love of God just GO!!!

Aka I’m too much of a chicken sh-t to leave and I care but I want to see how long I can get away with tricking someone else to do my job.

OP GO!!! Just go!!!!! You don’t want this job so GO!! NOW!!!

Oh wait!! They need this job. They will come and whine on this forum if they get laid off.

Typical.

Yeah it may su-k sometimes, but it’s not nearly as bad as many other places.

It’s not prison. Leave if you want to or if you are unhappy. Trust me your leader knows if you’re miserable and likely wants you to leave as well.

Aetna, UHG, Cigna, and everyone else are all in the same boat. Go look at other payers, they are worse then how it is at Centene. Yeah you can leave and get a bigger salary doing the same job at another payer, but they are just as bad also laying off employees.

I couldn’t agree more. Been with this company for over a decade and should’ve left at least 9 years ago. I’m just biding my time now, because I know another layoff announcement is coming. My department has been so slow it’s scary. We have hardly any new contracts coming in, so I know the layoffs are in the works. Not a matter of if, but when.
I’m good because I have another FT evening job (yep, I’m tired), so they can hand me a severance check any day now. I feel for those who don’t see the writing on the wall and think they are going to last another 5-10 years.

as someone who just survived a second RIF and is now looking to “hold on until retirement”, you nailed it. I will be happy to stay under the radar until then. no more people leading is ok by me!

Regarding attrition: We're remote, whereas many companies have either RTO'd or gone to a hybrid model. I'd argue Centene performs reactionary layoffs far less than other companies, but at the same point, we're significantly flatter (and leaner to boot) than the other F100 companies I've worked at.

  • Meaningful promotions are incredibly hard to come by. Next step? How's an 8-10% increase sound?
  • They've also added next step titles (next step was Director, now it's Sr Manager) to essentially hold you in the same spot with a small increase instead of a larger one you wouldn't made for said jump.

It's not an awful company if you're: 1) Looking to hold on until retirement or 2) Just starting out and hoping to gain some corporate experience.

It is an awful company if you're looking to grow your career in any meaningful way.
