Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

I hate this circus!!

I hate this place, and the utterly ridiculous clown show that passes for leadership!

Two weeks ago management said that, we don’t want anymore copper customers! That we’re not spending a single penny on it and absolutely not replacing copper! So Here is a form to fill out, when the situation arises and we will discontinue services, ( well ok knew that this was coming for a while)

Then today it angry tirade over a PUC complaint comes rolling down hill, for leaving a pots customer out of service, why because the cable is now gone due to a road & sewer job!! It’s now like we didn’t fill out the form!

So with that.. I have a deal with the wife & kids, I can leave and take the pension a year from now just before the contract expires… Unless the company offers my group VSPP at which point I can go…. So Any one got any legit info on 2Q Rif?

Middle management has entered the chat. Talk about useless. I wish DOGE would come to lumen to clean up. About 75 percent of management would be shown the door. As for work... i can sleep walk through a 10 hour day and not a single laid off federal worker , ai, or really anyone can come in off the street to do it. My linked in gets 2 or 3 hits a week from other companies. Theres alot of work for fiber splicers out there. No reason to leave though. Nice paycheck, 7 weeks of vacay/personal days, bennies, seniority..could go on....wait i forgot...what were you whining about?

Don't wish for DOGE to come clean house.
Elon will shutdown the whole place at once.
To Elon, copper is a ponssie scheme.

"If you have the option to leave now, VSPP or not, you better go while getting’s good. If they end up declaring bankruptcy, you still have your pension, but at .60 on the dollar and no lump sum, only annuity."

Why quit and be out of a job? If they declare banktrupty, which they wont, the business doesnt shut down. Everyones service isnt shut off. They dont stop selling or repairing service. What a d-mb-a-s post.

Bankruptcy? LOL. Youre kidding yourself. They own most of the conduit in this country. Someone is going to sn---h them up before it gets there to control it all. ATT or Goog or MSFT or Apollo or T. Someone is waiting in the grass to pounce.

I used to have loyalty to the company, in a legacy company. Now, in Lumen, there is no loyalty. This company su-ks. The new batch of "leaders" are clueless. They don't know the business, let alone what the working stiffs do day to day. In the past I would strive to give 120% all the time. And it would be noticed. Today, these ill-informed leaders can't recognize if I'm ki-ling it or sandbagging them. Reviews, STI and pay raise clearly demonstrated that. I'll never give 120% again. They are getting 100% max, if that. I'll do the job and collect that 2-week direct deposit, and nothing more.

That’s right up there with I left you $100.00 and some cab fare on the dresser!

“Lumen is not obligated to keep you employed and just paying you for a service they need.“

  1. Actually they are it’s called collective bargaining! And in that my retirement’s Pension is dependent on my length of service! This is not a simple job it’s a career with a public utility that requires some sacrifices of freedom and family have been required! Have you ever worked a 48 hr shift to restore 3600 out of service customers? Ever get frost bite restoring FAA circuits to a remote mountain top? Or heat exhaustion doing recovery from woodland fires?? It’s a commitment to the community thats right up there with cops, fire man, and military service.
  1. Skilled Private sector Union employees and Government bureaucrats have nothing in common absolutely ZERO in common GO DOGE GO!!
  1. if you when the time comes, and you can’t find another job then you probably had zero real world skills in the job you just left!! I can walk today and splice fiber for The company that’s over building lumen as we speak. Or I can take my electronics degree and do other things too, again I just have a hang up about loyalty.. to my community to my coworkers!!

Best of luck to you in the future it’s going to get really hard and really ugly for leaches that have been living off the life blood of Americas Blue collar working class

“ Always nice when management chimes in and validates the employees complaint..”

Not really, you are not doing Lumen a favor by being there. Lumen is not obligated to keep you employed and just paying you for a service they need. If you are so in need by other companies you would have a job lined up. The truth is right now if you lose job 8-12 months unemployment is expected. Even worse now with all the unemployed federal employees losing job and now all the private companies with federal contracts are laying off also. Just be grateful a check is hitting your bank every 2 weeks and the stress and cr-p is a mindset thing. Managers are also not there to be bending over backwards to make employees happy the corporate world is rapidly changing with AI and efficiencies and realization like in DOGE cleanup most people are not fully adding any value

Company is not forward thinking enough to do voluntary RIF's now or on an annual basis. They will wait until the stock goes from $5 back down to $1.

Then at $1 they will manually pick who goes, picking the most qualified and dedicated to go of course -vs- asking for any volunteers now at $5 stock.

Just keep in mind the job market is non existent for those over a certain age. So while LUMN su-ks big time, the alternative isn't great unless your ready to retire now. Good luck.

lol that is a lot of info in making identifiable who you are at Lumen. Just in case you want to be really anonymous

If you hate it so much can always quit. You work for Lumen which gives you a salary so good or bad have to put up with the cr-p.

The best bonus I even got from that company was them letting me go in the first rif. Now I’m happy and making more money. Thanks Lumen

Wrong. We just had a voluntary rif in Phoenix and out state this month.

“There are no more voluntary rifs coming“

There’s not even enough fiber work “currently “..let alone copper to keep busy!

Some crews are down to just one job, per day per crew member!!

But it’s all so really odd how the contractors are making Bank , staying busy doing the cut fiber and the installs! It’s like the company is more concerned with not losing the contractors, than they are with keeping the techs busy! Something is in the works!

You snooze you lose. Sorry y'all, youre stuck and put up with the suffering or decide to leave on your own and get nothing. There are no more voluntary rifs coming

Major regret not doing the voluntary RIF last year. If company where to do another one think they would have more volunteers than ever (color me gone).

Whats holding them back from doing another voluntary RIF for all hourly employees.

Voluntary RIF's are a great way for them to keep earnings up as they need to do more than ever asap concerning the highly pumped up stock price. Free the circus workers that want to go. Project yellowstone sales/acquisitions wont be enough to keep the street happy.

Well, The Staying part became a Non option and the checking out part became mandatory when the leadership started talk about how the company is “buying out” the Pots customers in there big rush/push to get rid of copper as fast as possible!

It was just the way management went off on us “obsolete techs”, over a customer that they admittedly don’t want all because engineering didn’t cover the bases like they should have!!

RIFs are coming

I would say if you have decided to leave then just coast collect check and let it be as you are already mentally checked out for retiring next year. Our leaders don’t care why should we. The SLT priority is preparing for next quarter skit and CEO don’t show up anymore either.

I had internal person go off on me on something I was just laughing now instead of panicking because I can’t find my manager or his boss to respond and guide me on chat or show up in meeting. They are scrambling for own job.
