Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Don’t stay here unless you’re nearing the end of your career

I’ve been at IBM a long time. I still remember when the work was exciting. But we’ve been coasting for years now. It’s all about keeping old systems running while jobs quietly move overseas. If you want to grow, learn, or do anything engaging, this isn’t the place. It’s a slow fade, until your role is cut or offshored. I know I’m stating the obvious, but a warning refresher is not a bad thing.

@dp

and who will be the last one to turn off the lights of the IBM offices in the US ? Will it be Rob the Slob or will the last IBM US engineer have to train some remote support VP in India to shut the lights off ?

IBM should be called TYORII == “Train Your Own Replacement In India “

@ac

Arvind is mediocre at best.

Wonder why all these tech companies have a fascination with CEOs of a certain type?

If you are at the start of your career, don't waste you're time looking work at IBM either. You will be stuck in a dead end career, even if they pay you the big bucks. Under Alvind and the Pipmunks, it's just a revolving door for US employees. They hire you fora year or three, and just when you think you're successful, you get put on a PIP by your sleazy manager, and your job goes to some loser in India. Worst of all, you have do to train the loser in India taking your place. And you leave the company with next to nothing in severance.

No one says IBM is a great company to work for any more - it is just a regular Indian sweatshop.

Seems Alvind and Krabanaugh had to turn on the charm and say the company is moving forward with AI, portfolio mix and productivity initiatives. After all, what else is there left in the shell of a once great company ?

IBM shares were down on Q2 profit miss, but upbeat on AI and cash outlook

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ibm-down-q2-profit-miss-205823930.html

Shares fell 4.7% to $268.75 in after-hours trading.

Earnings per share came in at $2.31, missing analysts’ estimate of $2.65.

Revenue rose to $17 billion, slightly above the consensus forecast of $16.59 billion.

As the shares moving away from the $300 / share target, Alvind, you need to do better in Q3.
