Thread regarding Appian layoffs

Can we relax or are there more cuts to come?

This is an example of poorly managed layoffs!

Some of those who were cut are struggling to understand the logic behind these cuts because their performance was cited as the reason and they were actually good performers.

Others who are not impacted are waiting in uncertainty for what will happen next.

Is there more to come?

Who was the VP that bragged about laying off people? Sales?

Layoffs, bad bonus, return to office to work, stress in the hallways, and people need to work more since there is less people will make other employees leave the company. If the quota is not met, that will trigger another layoff. Probably the new VP follows Elon Musk twitter.

Who is that VP that fired a lot of people?

@3uwx+1kFT3580 To build off this, I WAS given new projects/assignments for 2023 and was even prepping tasks immediately before being laid off. I was also having 1:1's with my manager regularly. The other points you listed are all true - but because of my previously mentioned points, I guess I just didn't see how bad business really was. This reply is all to say - keep track of your metrics, update your resume, and keep your eyes open!

Some of the clues I missed before being laid off.

  1. All business travel cancelled Nov/Dec/Jan
  2. No Christmas present
  3. Boss stopped 1-on-1's
  4. Did not get assigned RTW work location at HQ
  5. Did not get performance evaluation
  6. No talks of 2023 look-ahead strategy
  7. Q3 financial results - profit was bad
  8. Hiring stopped/slowed
  9. New VP bragged how he has fired many people, "cleaned house", when he starts at a company

And some people were explicitly told that it wasn’t their performance! Rather, the role was just being eliminated as a result of reduction in force. So really, you never know. Those roles which were eliminated were too similar or identical to another role and eliminated to save money.
